Text by Rachel Deghati

Since 2013, over the course of several long-term reportages, the photographer Reza thoroughly explored a region that remains relatively little known despite the key role it plays in the balance of power in the Middle East. In Iraqi Kurdistan, he witnessed a country and a people living on the tightrope between war and peace, balancing their history and ancestral traditions with a desire for social and economic modernity, and coping with the sorrows and wounds inflicted upon the Kurdish people in the past and their steadfast hope for the recognition of their identity. The book Kurdistan Renaissance in which Webistan participated, provides an intimate and exclusive look into this fascinating people and region.
